TechShop (http://portland.techshop.ws/) is opening in the Portland area in December, and Open Tech Space will be there with electronics and computer labs.
Access to these two labs will be free (no TechShop paid membership will be required) for open technology projects.
Two related articles that may be of interest to Open Tech Space:
One about a groundbreaking agreement between Oregon and Nissan/Renault to develop all electric cars and infrastructure for them.

The other is about Nissan and electric cars, and how they are making their technology open.

Very cool! Hopefully, Open Tech Space can play a role in the growth of electric cars in Oregon. TechShop will (eventually) have facilities for working on cars — we should encourage people to build their own electric cars.
We are currently working to set up an open tech space at TechShop (http://portland.techshop.ws/). COAST will provide equipment and personnel for an electronics and computer lab. Even though people normally must pay a monthly fee to use TechShop, they can submit project ideas to COAST. We will let them use the electronics and computer labs for free, as long as they agree to share the results of their work (make their code open source, publish schematics, etc.).
I’ve created a document summarizing the goals of Open Tech Space and COAST http://opentechspace.org/goals/
Open Tech Space is a project of the Center for Open and Sustainable Technologies (COAST) in partnership with various organizations. We are initially concentrating on the greater Portland, Oregon area, but expect the idea will spread to other places.
The goal of Open Tech Space is to give the Portland open and sustainable technology community physical gathering places for interaction at low or no cost, provide help with the creation of prototypes, encourage sharing and mentoring, and promote business development in the technology and art communities.
